Spring Cleaning Your Home Exterior

5 Exterior Home Maintenance Must

One of the most satisfying times of the year is spring. Not only does it mark the beginning of longer days and warmer weather, but it also marks the time to freshen up your home. For spring cleaning, most homeowners focus on packing away their winter sweaters and deep cleaning the interior of their home as they check off their checklist. However one thing many homeowners miss is the exterior of their home, which can sometimes deserve the same—if not more—attention than the interior. To help get you started, here are 5 areas of your home exterior that deserves a little maintenance attention:

Roof.  It is important that you check your roof for any problems. Cracked or missing shingles should be replaced to prevent the possibility of larger issues to your roof in the future.

Gutters. Protecting your home and its foundation are your gutters. While you should never go too long without cleaning your gutters, this is a good time to carefully inspect your gutters to ensure that they are working properly.

Foundation. Your foundation is one of the most important features of your home.  Keep your eyes peeled for cracks that may be indicative of bigger issues –such as water damage from a clogged or broken gutter.

Walls. Whether you have siding, stucco or brick exterior walls, it is important that you inspect them for any loose or damaged areas. Any large openings should be checked and blocked to prevent insects, squirrels and birds from entering your home.

Windows. Leakage around your window will let cool air escape from your house during the hot Florida summers, causing inefficiency and costing you money. To fix the leakage, you can use caulking or weather stripping.
